Billion-Dollar Acquisitions, Price Increases, and Historic Meetings

Again? – The July 2025 Consumer Price Index increased by 0.2%, bringing the 12-month average to 2.7%. The primary factor driving the increase was shelter, which rose by 0.2% in July 2025 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).
AI Partnership – Foxconn announced plans to manufacture data center equipment with Japan’s SoftBank in a factory in Ohio. This project is part of the Stargate project to further U.S. artificial intelligence infrastructure (source: Reuters).
Demand Spike – The Producer Price Index for final demand rose by 0.9% in July 2025 after remaining unchanged in June 2025. This brings the 12-month average from August 2024 through July 2025 to 3.3%, which is the largest 12-month increase since February 2025 (source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).
Soho Sell Out – Soho House is going private in an MCR Hotels deal valued at $2.7 billion. Soho House has locations across Europe, North America, and Asia. Shareholders of Soho will receive $9 per share (source: Yahoo Finance).
Import Advancement – U.S. import prices increased by 0.4% in July 2025, while prices for U.S. exports rose by 0.1%. This follows a 0.1% import price decrease and a 0.5% increase in export prices in June 2025 (source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).
Bad Behavior – Google has agreed to pay a $35.8 million fine to Australia after the consumer watchdog uncovered that the company hurt competition by paying the two largest telcos to pre-install its search application on Android phones (source: Reuters).
Uncertain Entertainment – AMC Entertainment released its Q2 2025 earnings report, citing $1,397.9 million in total revenue, which is up from $1,030.6 million in Q2 2024. However, AMC Entertainment still reported a $4.7 million net loss for Q2 2025 (source: AMC Entertainment).
Advent’s Acquisition – Advent International, a private equity group, will take over U-Blox Holding, a Switzerland microchip manufacturer, in an all-cash deal worth $1.30 billion (source: Reuters).
Memorable Meeting – President Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15, 2025 in Alaska. This is the first time Putin has been on U.S. soil since his 2015 visit to President Obama (source: USA Today).
Swinging Into History – Scottie Scheffler claimed the BMW Championship on August 17, 2025. Scheffler becomes the second player to have five wins in the same season in the past four decades. Tiger Woods is the only other player to accomplish the feat (source: Yahoo Sports).
