- Stalling Soybeans – China imported no soybeans from the U.S. in September for the first time since November 2018, mainly due to tariffs (source: Reuters).
- Buying Beauty – Kering has agreed to sell its beauty business to L’Oreal for $4.66 billion as the brand focuses on paying down its high debt. L’Oreal will acquire Kering’s Creed fragrance line and the exclusive rights to fragrance development for 50 years (source: Reuters).
- Pumping Up Production – Boeing has received FAA approval to raise its 737 MAX production from 38 planes per month to 42 planes per month. The cap was put in place after an Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 was missing four key bolts in a door plug (source: Reuters).
- Weaning Workforce – Molson Coors plans to cut 9% of its workforce, or about 400 jobs, by the end of December as part of its corporate restructuring plan (source: Reuters).
- Flight Financials – United Airlines reported operating revenue of $15.2 billion, slightly missing its expected $15.28 billion. However, earnings per share increased to $2.78 from the estimated $2.66 (source: Yahoo Finance).
- Looming Layoffs – Paramount Skydance will lay off around 2,000 U.S. employees as a part of a $2 billion cost-cutting plan. This follows the $8.4 billion merger between Skydance Media and Paramount Global (source: Reuters).
- Auto Update – The Trump Administration plans to expand credits for U.S. auto and engine production, while setting a new 25% tariff on certain trucks starting on November 1, 2025 (source: Reuters).
- Iffy Instagram Practices – Meta researchers found that teens who reported that Instagram regularly made them feel bad about their bodies saw more content adjacent to eating disorders than those who didn’t (source: Reuters).
- Divorce Data – Pew Research Center found that one-third of Americans who have ever been married have also experienced divorce. However, 66% of divorced adults have remarried and 46% have a child with their new spouse (source: Pew Research Center).
- Kickin’ Craze – Lucas Havrisik set a new Packers franchise record with a 61-yard field goal against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, October 19th (source: NFL).
